About the Cold War's historic

minuteman missile site

The term “Minuteman” was a term used for the Revolutionary War militia members who could be ready to fight at a moment’s notice, symbolizing the missiles’ quick-launch capability.

At the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, visitors can explore both the Delta-09 missile silo and the Delta-01 launch control facility, getting a close-up look at Cold War history. Guided tours of Delta-01 show what life was like for Air Force personnel who worked there, including a visit to the underground control room where missiles could be launched. At Delta-09, visitors can see the missile silo that once held a Minuteman II missile and learn about its capabilities and importance. The visitor center has exhibits, films, and displays that explain the history and significance of the Minuteman missiles, helping visitors understand their role in maintaining global peace during the Cold War.
